Psychotherapy

People often seek therapy at the most difficult times in their lives. They may feel overwhelmed by the demands of work or school, stressed by a major life transition, or struggle with ongoing depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem. Psychotherapy is about developing a trusting relationship where your concerns can be unpacked and deeply understood. It is important to discuss the nature of your symptoms, as well as the life experiences that underlie your concerns. I collaborate with you to understand and learn how your life experiences and ideas relate to your physical and emotional symptoms. My goal is to listen to you and understand you as well as possible, so we might discern together the challenges to living a more fulfilling life.

Recovering from abuse
Every couple endures their share of conflict and arguments. Yet when their efforts to resolve these issues have repeatedly been unsuccessful, it may be a sign that couples therapy could help. It is a common misconception of couples therapy that the therapist will choose a side. At times partners may even come to therapy hoping to be told that they are completely right, and their partner is completely wrong. As your therapist I will be on the side of your relationship, helping each partner to understand and empathize with the other, and to recover from past hurts. Whether couples have challenges with intimacy, communication, trust, or parenting, it is important for each partner to have space in the relationship where their needs and concerns are valued. In therapy I help couples learn to better understand themselves and their partners, and resolve underlying sentiments that fuel disagreements.
